IE6 Runtime error

Hi there
I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem that I have with my IE6 on my
XP machine. When I try to open it i get a Runtime error which states that
"this application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way".
Have been unable to use my IE6 browser for a while now. Can anyone help me
please?
Thanks
John

Hi John :)

Just a shot in the dark, but, if you happen to have any toolbars installed,
like Google's or Yahoo's,
close IE then uninstall the program(s) through Add/Remove programs then open
IE again. See if that resolves the problem. If not, then try the
following:

Error Message: Application Has Requested the Runtime to Terminate it in an
Unusual Way…

This is sometimes caused by the CommonNames parasite. See:
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/CommonName.html

Or this could be caused by another parasite. Try AdAware and Spybot.
See: Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

or...

A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, toolbars,
security, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at any program that might be
interacting with IE. You may have to reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

another possibility:..

From Internet Options> Advanced, if you have Sun Java and microsoft VM
(virtual machine) uncheck Sun Java.
More information on Java and Microsoft VM issues at
http://javatester.org/
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm

also….

Courtesy of Henri Leboeuf:

First go to IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced...scroll down and
check the box next to "Disable script debugging" and uncheck "Display a
notification about every script error."

or ...............

Common script errors messages can be eliminated by Clicking:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options. 3. In the Internet Options
dialog box, click Advanced.
4. Click to select the Disable script debugging check box.
5. Click to clear the Display a notification about every script error check
box.
6. Click OK.

If still no joy get the following:
Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version is for Windows 2000, XP
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

Also....check to see if you have more than one Java program installed. If
so, uninstall one.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan
I did have Google toolbar installed on IE6 browser, did as you suggested and
have now removed it with add/remove. IE6 has now opened. Many thanks for your
help and helpful suggestions, will keep them on file in case it happens again.

Some have reported that reinstalling the Google toolbar does not bring the
problem back.

Yes....you can try it again and see if it will work without incident. If
the problem returns, you at least know what you need to do to resolve the
problem, just uninstall the toolbar again.

As an added note here: If you have Yahoo Companion, you should uninstall
that and not reinstall it, as it is known to cause a variety of problems.

Hope this helps.
