I noticed that my restricted sites dialog box (in IE6) which did contain
hundreds of "bad" web sites is now empty! How could all these address have
been removed and how do I re-populate them?

Malware can remove it. Or some none malicious registry mishap could remove
it. If you had exported the registry key, you could just import it.
Otherwise, I hope you kept a list; hand entry is the alternative.

Hello Norman, thx for your reply.

I have WinXP Pro. In addition to having the admin log on, I created two
separate users, myself and my wife. It is my wife's user's account with the
issue of the missing "Bad" web addresses in the Restricted Sites zone.

I didn't exported the registry key. Can I inport from my user account IE
Restricted Zone, as mine has the listing of "Bad" web addresses? If I can,
please explain how.

Use whatever application you used in the first place to put them
there. They are not present by default.
Perhaps you have an application like Spybot that put them there?

mine is the opposite problem. i inherited this PC and have hundreds of 'bad'
websites in my restricted sites dialog box (IE6). how do i remove them? the
remove button took them out, one at at time, but when i closed it & went
back, they were all repopulated. thx

It is possible that you still have the application installed that put
them in. Spybot perhaps? If so, check in that application.

i did have Spybot on here at one time but removed it awhile ago. those
websites (about 50) remain on my restricted sites. any other suggestion to
get them outta here?

Remove them from the Registry with Regedit.
They should be under this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains
