IE6 refuses to use a separate window, closes active and reopens each time

here's the scenario:
I click the same icon I have always used to open IE6.
I see my homepage open as it should.
I try to right click and "open link in new window."
The link is opened in a new window but the former window
is closed simultaneously. Leaving me with no "back"
or "forward" options, etc.
I get real annoyed and reset all my preferences to
default and check to make sure I have the one set to re-
use windows for shortcuts turned off, but neither way
makes a difference anyways.
I run out of things to try, and post message. HELP?
:)jes

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.
