I use Netscape v3.0 for reading text only newsgroups.
Don't laugh, it works great for me!

However, links that are in messages try to open in Netscape. I've told
IE to be my default browser, but links continue to try to open in
Netscape. And since Netscape 3 is so old, any web pages it opens ends
up with tons of errors.

Any way I can get those links to open in Explorer?

Try:

Internet Properties > Programs tab

Click "Reset Web Settings".

That should d it.

Hi elephant,

Check what values you have in the following keys in the registry

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\Command

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\Command

If they are using Netscape.exe then just change them to the Iexplore.exe
path.

I had the same problem with FF on a win2k machine. Even reseting the program
defaults did not work as it should have.

Good thinking Rob. Would have never thought to check that area of the
registry. However, when I checked it, it was already set for IE and
not netscape. By the way, I'm running Windows ME. There has to be
some sort of setting in Netscape that will tell it to use IE, maybe a
shell setting somewhere. Guess I'll keep searching.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
