Hi, wonder if someone could help. I have IE6 XP Pro, just lately whenever i
click the "search button" in the IE6 tool bar, i used to have yahoo as my
search engine then it changed to MSN live search. Not a big deal, just change
it back, right? but now when you click on the little customize button to do
that to elect another one, it opens another IE6 page with verizon web search
stating a search error. So after you go close that page, there is an blank
popup with error 404 page not found on it. Can't seem to get any other search
options to use.. Hope i explained it well enough. Paul....

Hi, i have no such items listed as being installed under add or remove
programs window. Is there somewhere else to look to uninstall? Thanks

Have you installed any Verizon (including Verizon/Yahoo or Verizon/MSN)
software?

Are you running WinXP SP2 or WinXP SP3?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

See if a Reset helps:

Note: This step will help us clear cookies, restore the security level back
to the default settings, and disable third-party browser extensions. Before
trying the steps, we can export the cookies so they can be easily restored
later if you desire:

1. Press "Alt" from your keyboard, click "File", and click "Import and
Export".
2. Click "Next", select "Export Cookies", and click "Next".
3. The file is saved by default to your “Documents†folder, click "OK".

If you would like to import the cookies after resolving the issue, please
select “Import Cookies†in file menu to import the saved cookies file and
choose the “cookies†file from your “Documents†folder.

For Internet Explorer 6.0:
----------------------------------------
1. Click Start, Run, type: “inetcpl.cpl†(without quotation marks) and press
Enter.
2. Select the General tab, and in the Temporary Internet files window, click
"Delete Cookies", and click OK.
3. In the same tab click Delete Files, check the "Delete all offline
contents" box and click OK.
4. Click the Programs tab, and click "Reset Web Settings".
5. Click the Advanced tab, and click "Restore Defaults".
6. Under the Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions"
(requires restart).
7. Click OK.
8. Reboot.

Also, just found out i have this issue on both of my XP Pro machines at home.
Does the same exact thing. Weird.

Are all machines running WinXP SP3, IE6, AVG 8.0, Spybot w/Tea Timer
enabled, and no third-party toolbars installed? Are all machines fully
patched at Windows Update?

Yes up to date.......

The tea timer is not enabled and no third party tool bars installed. I
installed IE 8.0 just to see if when i went back to remove it, it would
hopefully fix this problem but no luck. I ran windows defender and said
system is running normal after scan.
