IE6 problem - typing in boxes

This problem started a couple of days ago. I have not
changed any of my settings so that something "odd" could
happen. I'd appreciate any help that someone might be
able to offer.

On many of the sites I visit, scrolling up and down takes
an unusually long time. In addition, typing in text
boxes (for example, search boxes or message board posting
boxes) takes a very long time, as in being finished with
the typing before any of the letters show up on the
screen. There doesn't seem to be any problem with my ISP
or with the other sites.
