I just came across this possible problem -
when accessing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
and entering on their search box (in the left panel) "CD-R" and clicking on
Go -
intead of opening the webpage I get a File Dowload security warning asking -
"Do you want to save this file?"
There is a page -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-R
which can be reached by typing in the address bar manually - sometimes -
often it will ask "Do you want to save this file?' intead of opening the web
page.
This was far worse earlier today -
even trying to access http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page I got the
"Do you want to save this file?" message instead of opening the web page.
Doing a search on the web I came across these possible releated topics -
IE6 bug always asking "Do you want to save this file" when o, IE File
Download dialog box opens instead of displaying a web page
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=69502
Fix for first boot (OOBE) and webpages downloading instead of opening
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=69601
Error to open a website in IE

I tried solutions suggested in those posts -
registered MSHTML.DLL
and
disabled Java scripting in the internet zone
But the problem persisted.
I even ran Ad-Aware to ensure there wasn't some spyware that was causing this.
Eventually I Deleted Temporary Internet files from IE6 and this cleared the
problem for most of the web pages -
BUT the search for CD-R on en.wikipedia.org persists on asking "Do you want
to save this file?" instead of opening the web page - I have obviously
cleared the temporary internet files several times - but this problem persists
has anyone else come across this problem?
Is this problem with IE6 or with en.wikipedia.org?
My version of IE6 -
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
Thanks,
