ie6 problem on win xp

When I launch ie6 and then close it I don't have to do
anything just get in and then close, I look at task
manager and ie6 is still active. If I try to log off I get
an error that says internet explorer has an error so I end
the program now and I am able to log off. It doesn't
matter how many ie6 I start each one stays active after i
exit. Any idea what is going on? Sorry if this one has
already been answered. I have run sypbot and cleaned up
the system.
