I am getting the common error message "the web page cannot
be displayed" on many websites that I visit and I do not
understand why. I can't access common website like
yahoo.com, but can others like espn.com. I had the
problem before when I had IE5, so I thought I could fix it
by upgrading to IE6. After upgrading all the websites
started working again, but a number of them have stopped
being accesible again. Any clue what I can do to make all
the websites work again. What is causing this to happen?
I know it is not my internet connection because I try
opening the same page with Netscape and it always works.
I am about to give up on Internet Explorer . . .

First eliminate any scumware.

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Ok, I have done all that. I cleared out the Hosts file
and have run ad-aware and those spyware removal programs.
It temporarily fixed it for like a day and the same sites
stopped working again. Anything else I can do? Thanks.
