Whenever I start Internet explorer 6, I get so many pop
up windows that immediately run, that it makes it
impossible for me to key in any information in the URL
line. I run Lavasoft's ad-aware, run msconfig, and keep
my temp folders empty in order to eliminate this problem,
but it only slows it down a ittle. Is there an activeX
control I can tweak, or another security setting I can
use to slow down these ads?

Thanks,
Dave

I use a program called Proxomitron. It is a very nice tool that stops pop-ups, it has user defined parameters so if it misses an ad, you can add it to your block list. The program has been stopped being developed but you can still find it out on the net. I very rarily get any unwanted popups yet it still allows wanted popups to come through. Just do a search for it, I cant find the website right now.

Insure you have the latest Ad-Aware. It is V6.181 and displayed in the
lower right. Insure you have the latest updates by using the on-line
update function.

Get SpyBot Search & Destroy and update to the latest reference
file.
SpyBot home: http://security.kolla.de/
SpyBot How-To: http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/

SpywareBlaster to prevent these nasties installing.

You should update and run these at least once a week.

To stop Messenger Service pop-ups you need a firewall like ZoneAlarm.

To get the many many answers to this already asked question.
