Several of my clients have dial-up internet connection. I
need to download the full IE6 SP1 installation package, so
that I can put it onto portable media and install on the
network at the customer's. I now have 5 hours trying to
find the full package download, what a friggn' waste of
time (I vented, I feel better now).

Funny thing is, I have a Pre-SP1 IE6 package, but it won't
work on Win2000 and I know it worked on my WinNT clients.
Were there different packages for WinNT vs. Win2000?

Any help on getting the full package downloaded is greatly
appreciated!

My thanks to the responses, you guys are my hero's!

For anyone following this thread, these references led me
to this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;257249

So I downloaded the ie6setup.exe file to c:\xTemp, then
from the command prompt:
"c:\xTemp\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d:1 /s:""#E"

and yes, I copy pasted the goofy set of quotes right from
the KB page into command prompt, and then into this post.

The /d:1 switch apparently prompts for "which OS's?", I
checked Win98, WinME, Win2000, WinXP.

Perfect! that's exactly what I needed!!! I have varying
OS's amongst my client's, this will help me to easily
support them. Thanks again for the responses.

Perhaps Microsoft could post a reference to these pages on
one of their 'download IE6' pages, would have saved me a
ton of time.

Jay,

I noticed you mentioned WinME.

You will most probably be faced with the "unable to install all components" issue, when trying to install IE6SP1 on WinME "operated" PC's.

Here is the workaround that problem, just to save you some hair pulling, head bumping and other crazy secondary effects:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee
