For some reason, IE6 has started opening when I turn on my computer. It is
not in the startup group and I can find no setting in the program that is set
to boot on startup

You say nothing about your anti virus and spyware and ad aware programs? Is
there a reason?

You have to remove things like this if they are in the registry;
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [windows] iexplore.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [windows] iexplore.exe

In what operating system?
The Startup folder has only a small part of the items at startup in
most Windows operating systems.

Check in Msconfig
(Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab)
If you cannot see anything in Msconfig then:

Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.

Check the registry by hitting Start > Run and typing regedit

Check the following to make sure iexplore.exe isn't listed, if it is than
delete it and restart:

A. HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows >CurrentVersion > Run
B. HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Windows >CurrentVersion > Run

Hope it works out!
