Product: IE6 version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Platform Windows XP Home edition SP2 fully updated from MS.

Sometimes when I click the IE6 icon nothing seems to happen,
but when I then check Task Manager I find iexplore.exe "active"
with around 11MB mem usage (always the exact same amount).

I can make another try and start IE6, it will show up in task
manager as a second instance of iexplore.exe, sometimes working
sometimes hanging in the same way as the first - and so on.

This behaviour began after some update, I no longer remember
precisely which because I did not immediately notice anything
irregular.

Any suggestions anybody?

regards Sven

Are you running any third party toolbars like Yahoo or Google?
Try turning them off.

I believe Google was installed automatically with one of the
updates from Microsoft. Are you telling me that this update
was not approved by Microsoft? (I have never deliberatly and
knowingly installed any third party product to any Microsoft
product unless it was part of a Microsoft published update).

I have never heard of Google being installed automatically with an update
from Microsoft. Since all of my machines are fully updated and none has the
Google toolbar, I just don't believe Microsoft installed it.

I might remember wrong, but I do not remember explicitly
installing any Google product. It could have been part of an
upgrade to some other product I use though.

Anyway, I found it as add-in on IE6, and also on Outlook, and it
is now gone from both. Just to make sure I really got rid of it I did
remove the last remains from my "Program Files" root folder and
also all obvious residues from my registry.
( Yes, I know what I am doing 8-) )

No more problems encountered since I received your acvice.

Thanks,
and regards Sven
