Have exhausted all other ideas without success - so have re-installed
W95 then W98 and found a CD with ie5.5 128 encryption on it and it has
solved the "Send Error Report" problem mentioned earlier.

All I need to know now - is it as safe as ie6 - should I risk trying
to upgrade or should I just be happy with "If it ain't broke - don't
fix it?"

Thanks for any comments.

The final version of IE 5.5 was known to be a fast and trouble-free browser, but
MS no longer supports it so you can sure that it's vulnerable to many of the
latest security issues.

You will find that some software apps require IE6, in fact that's what caused me
to upgrade from IE 5.5 SP2.

If you retain it, be sure that your system is protected by a good firewall,
anti-virus app, and you scan your system for malware frequently. These
precautions are required regardless of the browser version.

Thanks, guys, no problems so far, have AVG and Zonelabs - have checked
it through grc.com - so far so good - will upgrade to ie6 when i feel
comfortable that problem solved - thanx for feedback.

You should also have Ad-aware or Spy-Bot (some say both) or something similar to
check your system for malware. This (malware) may have been the cause of the
problem you had with IE6 installed.
