I just started having this problem last week
coincidentally after I installed a new "patch" from
Microsoft, that was supposed to make my software
run "better". Now, I can no longer manually type in an
address in the address bar of Internet Explorer. If I
type it into the Address Bar, IE locks up and gives
the "Not Responding" message. I shut it down and send the
error message, but Microsoft gives no helpful hints.
Here's the weird part, I can sometimes click on one of
my "favorites" and it will load fine. I can put in
a "homepage" under settings and it will load without
locking up. I am running XP home. I have scanned
multiple times for viruses with multiple programs, but
nothing was found. I've reinstalled Windows & IE with all
the updates through the support page, still no help. I'm
open to any suggestions or helpful comments you might have
before I reformat my hard drive and start completely
over. Thanks in advance.
