IE6 not loading pages from Google links

I have a problem that I have spoken to BT Internet help several times, still
with no solution. Maybe someone here can help.

IE6 starts and runs as it should but if I do a Google search and click on
links from there the pages invariably will not load. However, if i copy and
paste the URL to the web browser address bar the page will load fine. Even
then I get the odd page that fails but I guess that is to be expected
sometimes.

BT Internet Help (which they are inaccuratly named) Say it is my firewall
and viruse software (Norton Internet Security 2006), but I still get the
problem even with them switched off.
Other things that have been sugested, but have not been the cause were:

1. IE6 internet security level set too high. I have reduced everything to
the lowest level but still no joy.
2. A problem caused by either cookies or other temporary files. I have
deleted them but still no joy.
3. The 'automaticly detect settings' in Tools > Internet Options >
Connections > Lan settings is switched off. On or off the result is the
same.

Any ideas anyone? I would be very grateful for any help you can give me.

Thanks
Steve

Hi,
Assuming WinXP...
1. First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)
2. Open a Cmd window (from Start> Run> CMD) enter
ipconfig /flushdns
Hit [Enter]
3. Are you sure that NIS was disabled? I've heard that it's difficult to
kill off.
4. Try re-registering the DLLs listed in this article:
281679 - You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens
After You Click a Link: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679
5. If running XP SP2, go to IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable add-ons to
see if one of them is causing the problem. If not running SP2, go to
Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party browser extensions."
If that helps, you still need to find the guilty party. ToolbarCop:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm may help.
6. Something at http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/26.html may help.

Hope this helps,
