IE6 not loading https splash screen

I'm trying to access a secure website that uses a splash screen. The page
loads fine but when the splash screen pops up the page doesn't load properly.
I get an hour glass but nothing else happens. It's java based so I have made
sure all java is enabled etc. It doesn't need a java plugin or anything like
that. I've also downloaded all the windows updates but still get this error.

Any ideas?

cheers.

Hi jonnyc :-)

What is the exact wording of the error you say you are getting?

Hi,

There is no specific error as such. The splash screen appears blank with an
hour glass like it's trying to load the page but nothing happens. It stays
like that untill you close it. The page in the background is displaying fine
but this website uses a splash pop-up screen and there lies the issue. There
are no pop-up blockers or firewalls on the PC. I've tried everything on the
MS websites.

Any help would be much appreciated :-)

Hi jonnyc :-)

First, try the following and see if it helps:

Clear out Temporary Internet Files and delete Cookies.

If still no joy, then try...............

Because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java support after 30
SEP 04 and is recommending that you use the Sun JRE:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/win_manual.jsp

or..........

You can get the new Sun Java J2SE RunTimes or SDK here:
http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html (all versions - select using the
dropdown)

or here: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Sun also offers an automatic download and install of the 1.4 Java plug-in
here: http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

or.........

Download the Microsoft Java VM for Windows XP here
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Or you can download it from one of these locations:

or

or
ftp://ftp.uq.edu.au/mirror/microsoft/patches/winxp/javavm_3319_MIL_4275/MSJavx86.exe

and..........

You can test whether Java is working on your machine at the following sites:

http://www.clan.lib.ri.us/clan/javatest.html (This one may be down)
http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp (both 1.0 and 1.1 and what's installed)
http://coglab.wadsworth.com/support/browsercheck.html
http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html

and you can test Javascript here:
http://www.dancespots.net/browsertest.htm

also.........

Click Start, Run and type this command
REGSVR32 JSCRIPT

Try updating your script engine: For 2000 and XP go to

Try turning on prompts for Cookies and Active Scripting so you can tell if
anything is happening. You could also open the TIF viewer and see if you
already received it. Make your view Details and order by Last Accesssed.
The Cookie appears as a txt file. There is also a request to use ActiveX
which I couldn't see where it was being used but there is a script which
checks whether the browser can handle Shockwave Flash so I suspect there may
a be check for it which I missed somewhere.

The point is that all of that gets done before the page starts being
rendered; so either your User-Agent string or your version of Flash may be
affecting what else is being loaded and it may be that which is causing the
404.

If you don't want to bother with prompting you would also get a different
result simply by using the Security tab slider and setting it to High.

Don't forget to set your security settings back to whatever they were (e.g.
click Default) after testing. ;)

Flash & Shockwave not working

A few of things could contribute to the problem. Have you checked your
firewall to see if the ad-blocker or Flash blocker is set to on or block?
Also, there are several Pop-up blockers that will block Flash unless you
turn it off. I had POP-UP Blocker and it would not open Flash at all, and
it took me a while to figure out what was doing it When I unchecked the
Kill Flash it stopped. Some Flash has pop-ups and the blockers will see
them as ads or and kill it any way.

Also, if you have SpywareBlaster installed, be sure you have Kill Flash
unchecked - Open SpywareBlaster - Tools - Click on Flash Killer then uncheck
"Switch off Flash Player" or in v3.1 Disable and block Macromedia Flash (4X
5X & 6X) in Internet Explorer.

or..........................

Disable Flash Player

See: Disable Flash: http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/446/

or..............

Remove Flash, including all registry entries for it. Reboot then go to
Macromedia's site. Since it is Flash based you should get the dialog to
install Flash. Use the removal information at their site here:

or.........

Enable Flash in SP2

Internet Options> Advanced> Security> Check "Allow active content to run in
files on My Computer"

You will, of course, be giving up some of the security provided by SP2.

You can also make My Computer visible in Internet Options> Security to allow
additional tweaking.
See http://www.phdcc.com/xpsp2.htm >>> "Showing the "My
Computer" security zone"

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
