Philippe [Switzerland]

Hi there,

Before, I used to be able to perform a so-called
"repair-function" on my IE...but I think that since
I updated my XP with SP2 resp. IE with SP1
(eh...which one is the cause?), the IE/OE Program
is no longer appearing "there"...right??

So could therefore someone kindly "guide" me now
of how to make this kind of software to re-appear
"somewhere" again, so that I could possibly conduct
now such repair (as I was able to do so in the past)??

Thank you very much in advance...

Best regards,
Philippe

Thank you to Philo and Jon for their valid input!
However, I wouldn't dare performing an "OP" in my registry (!).
So it's REALLY A PITY, that PRIOR of installing SP2 at XP
resp. SP1 at IE6, one could SIMPLY click at this repair-mode...
and this without having to perform any tasks in the registry (!).

It stinks, yeah, but you're out of luck otherwise.

Not completely. <eg>

He can try fixing ieuinit.inf and then use XPsp2's iexplore.exe /rereg
(e.g. from the Run... dialog.)

I found four lines in ieuinit.inf which required corrections.
Extract from previous post:

Specifically I found the following errors on mine (mostly to do with whether
there is a DllRegisterServer entry point or just a DllInstall entry point
in each of the following modules:

%11%\comctl32.dll,NI
%11%\digest.dll,NI
%11%\inetcpl.cpl,NI (I deleted the first and left this.)
;%11%\msapsspc.dll (I actually deleted this line.)

Making those four changes allowed the whole section to execute cleanly.

BTW in view of the fact that the old repair (ref KB194177) is always
done during a boot when no other interference is possible I think it
should be advisable to stop as many other applications (if not services)
as well first but the command does nothing to encourage such an ideal.
Perhaps doing it after a safe mode boot would be a simple, effective
compromise.
