Hi cmar :-)

If you have already checked for system thoroughly with all programs fully
updated, run them in Safe Mode with Hidden Files enabled and know for sure
that your machine is free of any scumware, then you might try a repair.
However, be aware that doing a repair will not remove any scumware, and if
it does exist on your system at the time of the repair, it may make matters
worse. You do not mention the version of Windows you are using so I'll post
the information for repairing both 2000 and XP: If those are not the
versions you are using please post back.

You will need to uninstall any post IE6-SP1 Win2K SPs before you
uninstall/reinstall IE. You will also have to go to the Windows Update and
reinstall all the necessary updates after the reinstall.

Repair XP SP2

Simplest repair for XPsp2 is Run... iexplore.exe /rereg

If that's not enough there are additional registrations given
in KB831429 for W2K which apply equally to XP. (e.g. NT5x)

also..

First, disable your AV:

SP2 section:

The section
Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet
Explorer 6 works on earlier versions of Windows.

Be sure to visit Windows Update site and let it scan for all needed updates
and service packs afterward.

Hope this helps.
