since yesterday cannot attach files to email messages. Does anybody know why
this happened and how to correct this?
(Win XP, did check for malicious software and novice)
Thank you

What email client are you using?
What happens when you try and attach a file?

....Alan

Dear Allan,
Thank you for your email. I am using Yahoo and have contacted me with
suggestions but said it was my computer When I try to attach a file I do get
a Microsoft Internet explorer error message " Invalid file specified. Please
try again"
Uptill 2 days ago all was fine I have tried MS maliciuos file scan,
reinstalled win XP, ran 5 antivirus progams and 2 spyware scans.
(All with help from others)
Thank you , Jack

I am not Allan but I will answer anyway.

I am not familiar with Yahoo mail but did you only update your
computer two days ago? If so, see if you think this is relevant:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx has
been revised to v1.2 to reflect the issues in KB918165.
From the FAQ section:
"On Tuesday, April 25, Microsoft will issue a targeted re-release of
the MS06-015 update."

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip

Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

....Alan

Dear Sirs, I did follow the instructions did not have a "merge" option and
hope that restarting my computer would help, but no all remains the same and
can still not attach files.
Thank you Jack

Do you mean you didn't have a Merge option when you right-clicked the
..reg file? What options did you have?
You can open Regedit.exe and import the file as an alternative.

....Alan

Are you importing the .reg file?
You sound as though you are importing something else... perhaps the
..zip file?

Again...Do you mean you didn't have a Merge option when you
right-clicked the .reg file? What options did you have?

....Alan

Yes it was a zipfile than I opened it and than had a choice to enter it in
the registry and I did and said yes.
Sir or medam, I am a novis in this computer work and I am swetting bullits
going so deep into my computer. Just hope I am not doing something
devastating to the computer

I did download the KB 908531 file and it was a zipfile I opened it and than
was aked if it should be added to the Registry and I klicked yes.
Sirs, I am a novis and never "touch" the registry MS can do that kind of
"updating" but now I have no option, am sweting bullets of fear that I do
something wrong to the computer

You are missing something.
Opening a zipfile should only reveal the file inside.
KB908531_Share-To-Web.reg
Are you telling me that opening KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip did
something else?

Please follow the instructions.
Download the zipfile.
Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

Again...Do you mean you didn't have a Merge option when you
right-clicked the .reg file? What options did you have?

Do not touch the Registry manually if you are a novice.
The .reg fix should be simple if you follow the instructions.
Please find someone close with more experience to help you.

....Alan

after I unzip I right clicked to properties and get the following info
Name KB908531_Share-to-web.reg
Type Registration Entry
Location Archive Root Directory
Original size 1 KB
Date 15/4/06

Zip information
CRC32 A976C526
Index 0
Packet size 1KB

After that I only have the "OK" click source
So I did
Thank you
Jack

No.
I didn't ask you to click Properties.
I asked you to extract it to a folder.
You have not done that.
You left it in the archive.

Please follow the instructions.

Extract KB908531_Share-to-web.reg to a folder.
Rightclick KB908531_Share-to-web.reg in that folder.
Now, what options do you have showing?
If Merge, then select it.

....Alan

OK!!!!!! it worked, did get merge and did that and it was "entered" in the
registry
Thank you, I do hope you will get this message, now what will I do
Thanks again,
Jack

If (and I mean IF) that was your problem, then you have fixed it.
If not, then try another post with as much detail as you can.

....Alan
