Hi, All,
I'm using IE6 with Windows XP.
I have three "third-party" toolbars that load into my browser on startup:
Adobe PDF (installed with Acrobat 6)
Google Toolbar
Easy WebPrint (installed with Canon PIXMA printer software)
I recently did a complete uninstall of McAfee VirusScan, including use of
McAfee's Uninstaller programs (went well!), and then installed AVG
Anti-Virus. (Seems to be working fine.)
During the uninstall/install process I did the usual disk cleanup and
defrag, as well as using Registry Mechanic to ensure that there were no
registry problems.
Everything on my system is working prefectly, no glitches at all, EXCEPT...
Somewhere along the way I have lost all three of the above toolbars!
I have checked the usual things:
If I select View> Toolbars I no longer see the option to select any of the
three toolbars. (I do see Standard Buttons, Address Bar and Links.) The
various Add-On toolbars were always visible there before, but they are gone
now.
If I go to Tools> Manage Add-Ons the various toolbar classes and helper
classes ARE listed, and all are shown as enabled.
I checked Tools> Internet Options> Advanced, and "Enable third-party browser
extensions" is checked as it should be.
I also tried repairing the toolbars using REGEDIT as recomended by
Microsoft, that is:
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
open the WebBrowser Sub-key, then
delete the entry for ITBarLayout
When I reopened IE6 all the "normal" buttons and bars had been reset to
their default settings, but the third-party toolbars were still not visible
to check.
Now what do I do? I suspect there has been a simple change or deletion of a
registry key, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out on my own!
(One possible scenario: When I was using McAfee VirusScan there was a McAfee
toolbar that was listed among the available IE6 Toolbars, but I never enabled
or used it. This toolbar would have been uninstalled with VirusScan. Maybe
the glitch occurred then?)
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks so much!!
Ken
