ever since i downloaded the most recent security update
(818529, i think)ie has been very slow and almost always
locks up. it usually comes out of it after 30 sec to 1
min. or longer. every time it does this it is using 100%
cpu utilization so nothing else will work hardly. and
every time i close it down it refuses and i have to cntrl-
alt-del to shut it down. i can't even un-install b/c the
un-install from the cntrl panel says it has an bad inf
file. i can't update or regress to an older version b/c
it says there is a newer version and the download will be
terminated. please help.

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit is with these
tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

or:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

I too have that problem, disabling 3rd party Browser
support and removing Spyware doesn't help. I only used
SpyBot-S&D however, I should try the other one listed as
well.
