Hi all --
I have setup a network with a Linksys 802.11b "wireless access point router"
on my desktop with a Linksys 802.11b wireless card for my laptop. The
desktop is hard-wired to the router, the laptop uses wireless access. Both
computers are running Win XP.
Here's the problem: Most of the time, I can access web pages fine through
the wireless connection. After a while, however, this functionality stops:
I can no longer access web pages, either they do not load at all, or they
load painfully slow. This will happen very quickly, from being able to
access webpages at one moment, and then not the next. Even though webpages
will not load, I can still retrieve/send e-mail through MSOutlook (XP), and
'ping' Internet sites. Further, I am able to download files (at about
150kbps) during the time when my Internet access has 'stalled'. This
problem occurs even when the signal is excellent, and the Mbps is 11. After
a while (can't really say how long), everything seems to go back to normal;
however, sometimes rebooting the laptop doesn't help.
Since I can download files at a reasonable speed, ping Internet sites and
access e-mail, I"m wondering if this is a problem with Internet Explorer,
and not the wireless connection. I've noticed help on the support pages at
Microsoft for a similar problem with their broadband wireless router.
I'm at a loss to isolate a cause or a solution for this. Has anyone else
experienced this, and can offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Anthony
