My IE6 keeps crashing, seems to happen only on certain sites - it always
crashes when searching Google for images, images appear ok (thumbnails) but
as soon as I click on one i get "IE6 has encountered a problem & needs to
close etc etc)

This problem has been going on for a while & Ive tried various remedies but
still have problem is it possible to remove IE6 & reinstall it? (dont want
IE7 tried it as one of my remedies didnt like it at all) Im running XP Pro,
IE6sp2 any help/advice will be much appreciated.

Just a shot in the dark, but if you have upgraded XP Pro with "Service Pack
2", it will use gobs of memory (RAM). If you don't have at least 1 gig of
memory, that may be the cause of the crashing.

To see how much RAM you have and to see if you indeed have Service Pack 2
installed, click on:

Start Button | Choose "Settings" | Control Panel | the "System" Icon | View
the "General" tab.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Service Pack 2 CANNOT be un-installed - you would have to
format your hard disk, the re-install XP Pro and all your software from
scratch.

Other Ideas: Try turning off any Anti-Virus and/or Spyware, then see if it
still happens. That may give a clue.

Horse hockey! If installing SP2 causes a crash, the condition of the
machine (i.e., older, incompatible drivers/BIOS; hijackware) prior to
installing SP2 is the culprit, not SP2.

Ridiculous.
I used 256MB with XPSP2 without problem.

Service Pack 2 can be uninstalled.
I have Service Pack 2 listed in add/remove programs.

Hello,

Just a small correction there: Service Pack 2 can be uninstalled - only if
it was installed as an update through Windows Update/MS Update/Downloaded
file.

If it was already installed as part of XP installation from a slip-streamed
CD or a newer XP CD with SP2 slip-streamed in, the user will not be able to
uninstall SP2.
