Hi,

Can anyone help. When I go onto a Audio covers site, I
cannot download the JPEG covers! I get a red cross in the
corner and thats it. i have compared it with another
machine which can download, and the appear to be the same.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,

Adobe Photoshop (7) saves XML data in the .jpg when you use:
Save as...
IE chokes on this... When you use 'Save for web' you do not
have this problem. Open a jpg in a textviewer to see if
this is your problem...

The trouble is I cannot see or save the Jpeg. I think
it's a browser setting but i don't know which.

Gerbert,

Do you have some examples of this type of .jpg file still?
All of the public examples that I know about seem to have been fixed.

I have been trying to decide if

<TITLE>817177 - Image Files Do Not Appear When You View a Web Page with Internet Explorer 6 SP1</TITLE>

has been fixed by the mshtml.dll in the latest cumulative security update
(e.g. 824145)

Here is an excerpt from a previous post about that (with quotes from 817177):

<excerpt>
<quote>
The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later)
that are listed in the following table.
....
Date Time Version Size File name
--------------------------------------------------------
31-Jul-2003 19:43 6.0.2800.1240 2,798,592 Mshtml.dll
</quote>

On two counts the version that the cumulative patch installs
satisfies that "or later"

6.0.2800.1276 2,799,104 10-16-2003 Mshtml.dll

It has a greater version and a later modification date.
All we have to assume is that the source for the hotfix
(a non-security matter) became integrated with the source
of the security patch (and its functionality not regressed).

Hmm... I can't find that post on msnews any more.
It's on Google Groups:

However, I can't recall if the symptom associated with that problem was
Red-X or an image placeholder (i.e., same size and shape icon but
triangle, circle, square instead of Red-X). One symptom I can recall
is that the iexplore.exe task had to be killed in order to allow normal
rendering after it tried rendering one of those Photoshop 3.0 .jpg.

Therefore, Ian's problem may not be the same one that you are
referring to.

Ian,

It may be simplest if you would post a link of a page (or an image)
which is giving you problems. Then someone with a trace active
might be able tell if you have an example of what Gerbert is referring to
even if the image is being marked non-cacheable (which would explain
why you can't see it.)

Gerbert,

I replied to you too but for some strange reason the content of my post
seems to have raised the ire of the filters. Since it contains an excerpt
from a previous post which was also filtered out I guess I know the parts
I could focus on and try to munge it into acceptability. However, since
Google Groups does have it is simpler to just give you a link to it there.
