To All:

I have diligently searched a number of resources (including this newsgroup)
to find a cure for the JavaScript problems my clients and I are having with
Internet Explorer 6 after all relevant updates have been installed. I hoped
that Q281679 would be the solution but it has not provided any help.

I have resorted to using Mozilla and Opera in order to have the
functionality I need, but does anyone have a surefire way to fix this
problem in IE6? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I, too, am having Javascript errors. I like doing
crosswords on-line, but the crossword puzzle is written in
Java language. When I tried to open the puzzle, the
website gives me an error saying "Java applets could not
initialize because either your web browser does not
support java scripting, or it is not enabled." When I
open the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options", Java
scripting is not even a selection anymore. I have
downloaded several patches and the new Java scripting from
the MS web site, to no avail.
Someone please help!!! I need my daily crossword fix!

Found the answer to your/my Java Script problems. Look at
post titled "How to Browse Java Chat", about 4 posts below
this one. Look at the first reply and coy/paste that link
to your browser. It works. I now can do my on-line
crossword puzzle written in Java.
Best of luck.

Curtis:

Thank you for the msvp.org link. Unfortunately, the re-installation of the
MS Java VM component did not resolve the problem. The installation of the
most recent version of the Java product from Sun also failed to resolve the
issue.

I find it perplexing that the latest builds of Opera and Mozilla Firebird
have no problem displaying JavaScript links, but Internet Explorer 6 and
Mozilla both fail to open such links. Does anyone have any additional
resources that can be tapped to resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Bob N.

First of all, open a command prompt and type "jview" (without the quotes).

This will determine if you have the MS VM. If you do, then you already have
Java and your problem lies elsewhere.

If you don't have Java, download and install the appropriate version from
the Sun Java site.

After you install it, you'll see an applet in your Control Panel. Click it
open to get the Sun JVM Control Panel. Examine all the settings in all the
tabs and make sure they are correct.

Specifically, Internet Explorer should be checked on the browser tab. If it
isn't checked, do it now.

Open IE and go to Tools->Options->Advanced. Scroll down to the Java(Sun)
section and make sure that there is a check next to Use Java ........ If
not, check it now.

Your question concerning Mozilla should be asked in a different group.

Java and JavaScript are entirely different and unrelated.

Java and JavaScript are not related.
