IE6 isn't recognised as such

I have Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 installed on my
PC, but I have experienced several problems trying to
access sites that require this. Mainly my credit card's
website, which says that I need to be using IE5 or
higher, and Adobe Atmosphere web pages. When I look at
the Adobe support site, it tells me that I am using an
old version of IE and that Atmosphere is only compatible
with IE5.5 or higher and AOL 7 and 8, all of which I have
installed on my pc. Also, I tried to install Adobe Image
Viewer Plugin, but got an error message saying that I did
not have a new enough version of Adobe Reader, but it is
the latest version (6). I have posted a message on the
Adobe forum, but have not received a reply. However, I
think it is an IE6 issue, due to my credit card's website
having a similar issue. Can anybody out there help? I can
offer my undying gratitude, but little more.
Thank you.

Several of these are known to cause [these problems]:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]
"User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"

Note: "Win32" = Windows 98\ME
Other versions = (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)

Thanks a lot, Mate. I'll give your message a thorough
look through and try it all.
