IE6 invoking automatically

I hope someone has seen this problem before.

I have a HP running XP Home Edition - SP2, with all the updates and security
patches loaded.

Ok, I was stupid, I started SBC DSL service before I installed my firewall.
I thought MS firewall was running, but it wasn't. 4 days later, I've cleaned
out all the malware, spyware, and adware (I think). I've cleaned my system
with Norton, Ad- Aware, Spy Bot Search and Destroy, Spyware Doctor, and MS
antispyware.

So here's the symptom: I play Tiger Woods 2005 golf on my computer. It was
running just fine before the attacks. Now that I've cleaned things up,
Tiger's graphics are interrupted every 5 minutes by an iexplorer.exe starting
up, and I'm returned to the desktop I've watched it on the Task Manager,
it's logged on Norton's activity log, and the IE icon is on the list of items
running when I use ALT-TAB to transition from the desktop back to Tiger Woods
when interrupted. iexplorer.exe runs for about 10 seconds, doesn't start up
any (visible) windows, and then exits.

The question is: Is iexplorer.exe supposed to auto start every 5 minutes?
if so, I'll focus on TW 2005 as the issue.
Or do I have a straggler infection that is trying to connect to it's buddies
every 5 mnutes using iexplorer.ex, but is now blocked due to the firewall?

Thanks to any offering help.

Hi Tiger tamer :-)

It is not normal behavior for IE. You may still have a hijacker, malware or
Trojan on your system, and the programs you have run do not have the
definitions to detect or remove them, as they are not a virus, spyware or
adware. Thus, you need to download and install HiJackThis and post your log
to oen of the forum listed to have the expers analyize it and see what else
may be on your system that might be causing the problem. Follow all
directions carefully.
