Having installed the Microsoft April security updates I find that I am
unable input usernames and passwords into any web pages.
Any simple solutions available welcomed.

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

For XP
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip
Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

For Windows 2000 systems
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/Q918165_HP_Fix_W2K.reg
Download it, right-click it and select Merge and confirm when asked.

I had issues as well with IE after the update. My pullown at the address
bar was causing IE to stop responding. Apparently the MS06-015 causes
problems with other software by HP or NVidia. The instructions were fairly
simple and effective.
I found my solution at:

I don't know if it will work for you, but it's worth a shot.
