My IE6 has just started playing up - I open an IE window and it'll behave
like its partially loaded, but the status bar seems to take forever to
change at almost 100% loaded, which stops browsing within the window
(bookmarks, etc not responding).

FF works fine, its not my homepage, which I've changed to other sites.
There's no other connectivity problems.

I've scanned my system for viruses with multiple virus scanners / malware
programs, with nothing found. Have MS screwed something up with a recent
update?

For the record:

Found the problem: Google Toolbar.
Uninstalled.
Reinstalled.
Everything back to normal.

Interesting. I developed what sounds like exactly the same problem
earlier this week. I fixed mine by restoring a backup. If it re-occurs,
I'll try your Google Toolbar fix. Wonder what's going on.

Sid, google automatically updates its toolbar ... without you knowing
about it. Wonder if they installed a 'buggy' toolbar?

I think they must have done - I remember now I kept getting the occasional
error message concerning a missing or errant DLL file related to the Google
Tool Bar. I should have remembered that earlier...it was definitely a Google
thing...which is a first.

They must be slipping...

Didn't know that. It (the problem) hasn't happened again since I
restored the backup. perhaps, like you say, it was a buggy update and
they've fixed it.
