IE6 Homepage Slow

A client has two issues which may or may not be related. IE6 takes from 45
sec to a minute (or more) to load the home page. After that the current
instance of IE works fine but any subsequent instances have the same problem,
even if started from a link.

The client is pretty sure of the day it started so I tried to do a system
restore to the day and then a week before and the restore would not work. I
can do the restore for the day after (there is no restore point for the day
it happened).

Has anyone seen this (or these) issues. Any suggestions would be very
helpful. Am running XP sp2 with all updates and Panda AV 2007 and several
other people in the office access most of the same sites. No problems
elsewhere. AV is up-to-date and a detailed scan shows nothing.

Thanks

Hi,
Does the issue persist with a different homepage or a blank homepage?

Does the issue persist with add-ons disabled from IE> Tools> Manage add-ons?
How about with the Windows Firewall enabled and third-party security
programs disabled?

You've tried universal step #1 of clearing the cache, history and cookies,
right?

Panda is a good AV program, but no program catches everything. Try Ad-aware
and Windows Defender

The Kaspersky online scan will identify, but not remove malware.

This scan can take several hours.

You may have to post a HijackThis log for analysis.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
