I can't access the net due to a virus or something according to my service
provider. I have'nt made a backup of my MS Office files or anything else
(brand new pc, came with lots of good stuff loaded, but no back up cd's.)

I did make the recovery disks last week, while still infected, just didn't
realise how bad this was at the time, and I hope the virus didn't get into
the disks.

Right now it seems to be mostly the IE that's affected, and according to the
senior tech at the SP, it's corrupted the regedit to the point they couldn't
help me anymore and suggested I take the pc in, or format the HD.

I don't mind formatting, I just don't want to lose all the goodies I haven't
played with yet, and hoped to take the easier route by fixing this thing
instead of starting all over agian.

I just thought that maybe if I loaded another browser (Netscape good
enough?) that at least I could still use the pc till I got it fixed?

Right now I have a laptop hooked temporarily in the kitchen, and it' can't
stay there too long, and this is a pain in the (_|_).

Thanks to all who can help me with this.

do the net some courtesy and dis-connect that computer and
take it in for service.
hopefully the backup discs didnt copy the virus/crap . and
they should have all the goodies ,unless they were extra

It is disconnected...> >I can't access the net due to a virus or something
I'm using another pc, and I'm making sure they're not connected together.
If anyone can help me with my questions, I would appreciate it.
Thanks to all...

Did you identify the virus with an anti-virus app? If so, you should be able to
obtain a removal tool for it. Have you tried this approach?

If not, you could provide us with the exact symptoms you are experiencing and
maybe we could suggest an applicable removal tool.

Otherwise, backup all files in the My Documents folder....this should be where
all of your Office files are located. We need to know if you have a CD burner
also.

You haven't mentioned which OS you're using, or exactly which data files, e.g.,
e-mail from Outlook or Outlook Express, IE Favorites, etc., you want to save.

We need more details in order to help you.
