IE6 has encountered a problem

IE has encountered a problem and needs to be closed for the last pair days
now. Some times it works right after the second start, sometimes it does
not.
I tried to use System Restore to go some days back but it does not start to
work after the date is chosen though Task Manager shows that process is
going.
I have Windows XP Home, antivirus and firewall. Any help will be
appreciated.

You need to un-install the latest Cumulative Security Update for IE6 that
was installed within the last week. If you have automatic updates turned
on, despite doing this, it's going to download and install it again,
unfortunately...

You are looking in the Add/Remove programs section of the Control Panel.
Check the box at the top that says, "Show Updates". Scroll down toward the
bottom, and find the Security hotfix with "(KB942615)" after it. Once you
uninstall, IE6 will work again.

Internet Explorer 6 crashes after you install security update 942615 on a
computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 2

If none of that works, turn off your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs
and uninstall KB942615. Then reinstall it and then turn them back on.

Thanks for your prompt answers! After I send my ask to the group I tried to
use System Restore in the Soft mode to back 4 days earlier. It worked and
problem vanished. I think till the security update you mentioned will be
installed again. Then I will use your remedy. BTW, will the problem insist
if I upgrade to IE7? I did not like it before, sorry.

I don't think so, but I don't know for sure.
