Mudma

I am having some Internet explorer problem. I just added a new video
card and memory to this machine. I get a valid IP address from router
and other machines are browsing without any problems. Ok heres the
deal. Machine is a Compaq machine with an Athlon XP 2800+ Processor. It
origianlly had 256 MB of PC3200 Memory. I had a GB of PC2100 Memory
laying around and figured I would put it in the machine. No browsing
problems after that. Originally this machine was using onboard video. I
just put in an Nvdia Geforce FX5500 128MB Card and installed the
drivers. The operating system is Windows XP Home edition with all the
updates.

Symptoms: When I open internet explorer to browse it appears to find
the web page. It then just sits there with the "waiting for reply.."
message. The web page never opens though.

CPU seems to be running a little high at 60 degrees

What was tried:

- Turned off Firewall - no success
- disabled anti-virus - no success
- ping external web address - success gets replies without any issue.

Any suggestions?

Hi Mudma :-)

Try going to the Windows Update and let it scan for any needed updates. That
is the first thing I do whenever I make any changes in hardware and software
to make sure everything is fully updated and talking to each other friendly.

Hope this helps.

Also...go to the website for your video card and make sure you have the
latest update as well. Even new equipment may not actually have the latest
update, depending on when it was distributed.

Hope this helps.

Jan,

Unfortunately the problem prevents me from going to any website as
every website sticks at the waiting for reply... screen. As for latest
drivers I went to the nvidia website on my laptop got them and
installed them. No success...

Thanks

Hi Mudma :-)

ok...let's try the following and see if it helps:

First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google or Yahoo, disable them.

also..

Then try these two commands
o to Start> Run and enter the two commands one at a time (or cust and
paste), and hit enter after each one. You should see a message that they
have registerd successfully after each one.

regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

Then, refresh your scripting engine. Go to

for the appropriate download.

Verify that Internet Explorer Is Using 128-Bit Encryption
To check:
1. In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer
2. The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the words Cipher
Strength. Verify that the Cipher Strength value appears as 128-bit
If the Cipher Strength is anything less then 128-bit, download the Internet
Explorer High Encryption Pack to your computer's hard disk, and then install
it.

If you have used SpywareBlaster make sure the Flash Killer is not enabled.
