I just recently installed Norton Personal Firewall 2004
and have started having problems with IE6 frezzing and
not responding. I run Winxp home with 512 RAM pent4
1.5. I am current with all updates and virus scans and
have run the latest spyware utility. It will usually
happen after surfing for a few minutes or hitting
multiple links in row. I can only exit using
ctrl>alt>delete. I have sent the error reports to
microsoft. Symantec site shows nothing in current
knowledge base. I am going to uninstall NPF next and see
if problem disappears. Has anyone had similar issue??
Any suggestions? I have another PC running wirelessly
with same basic setup and no such problem!!

What happens if you temporarily turn Norton off?

Try to disable Real Time file protection in Norton setup.
I had the same problem and it resolved it. Norton
certainly is aware of the problem but doesn'y let us know.

The problem is not w/your OS or IE6 etc. Many websites
are nolonger compatable. In short, those need to be
tweaked for IE6 by their website programmer. If you
still have IE5 ver. handy. Use it to browse and open those
problem sites. And you'll find those sites respond
perfectly. There is NO fix from MS. Because it's a website
issue. When you come across a website that IE6 won't open.
You need to notify their support about it.

Val, thanks for the reply....Where do I find "Real Time
File Protection"? I am running Norton System Woks 2004
as well. I just ununstalled Firewall and it did not
help. As for the other reply, I am freezing even on this
site which I'm sure microsoft ensures runs OK with IE6.

Try temporarily disabling ALL Norton programs. If the freezing is gone turn
them back on one at a time, testing in between.

It may vary depending on version of NAV - I am running
NAV Corporate 7.6 - but bacically one way or another you
should have 'Configure' option, and one of the items
there is 'File System Realtime Protection'. If you can't
find it, try to stop NAV from running - go to Control
Panel\Administrative tools\Services and stop NAV service.
