I have recently encountered a problem with IE6 when I attempt to play live
audio from various news web sites. This can also occur with live news video,
but not always.
When the browser works correctly some web sites offer a choice of media
players, either WMP or Real Audio, prior to opening a default player, but
now I get a blank window with 'Unknown zone' displayed at the bottom, and
the hour glass cycles continuously, necessitating a CNTRL/ALT/Delete.
The problem doesn't appear to be related to any particular media player.
I also have a BTYahoo Broadband Browser and this works fine.
I have deleted all cookies and Temp Internet files, but this has not cured
the problem.
To compound the issue further, I now find that System Restore is not
behaving itself. I have tried several restore points, and the computer goes
through the usual procedure of restoring the files, then re-boots. Finally I
get an error message stating that Windows could not restore to that
particular restore point, 'try another restore point'. I am not sure if all
other restore points will also fail.
Unless I can pin point the actual cause of the problem, I would like to know
if it is possible to restore IE6 on it's own, without resorting to a full
Windows XP reinstallation.
Any help would be appreciated.
