IE6 freezes for 3 minutes

Everytime I launch IE 6 or open a new window in IE6, it would freeze
for a few minutes before it becomes active. From Task Manager, the
status is running all the time but I can't click anything on the page.
How can I find out what it's doing or any addon is causing this?

Is there a way to uninstall and install a fresh copy of IE6 under
Windows XP SP2?

Thanks,

liu

Tools > Manage add-ons > Disable the most likely culprits, close IE & reopen
Any faster?

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing > Enable third-party browser
helper objects > Uncheck & reboot > Any better?

Thanks for the suggestions. By disabling 3rd-party browser help
objects, it goes back to normal. It is also OK if I just leave 1 or 2
addons but still freezes if I had some more. Most addons worked OK
until I manually removed one suspecious addon (spyware that kept
popping up new windows). I had it set as disabled but hate to see it
listed there. I booted to another system and deleted it from system32
folder. Maybe IE is still looking for it whenever it's launched
because it's still listed as disabled addons.
So how can I permanently delete the problem addon from the list?
Delete is gray at Manage Add-ons. I've tried ToolbarCop but the addon
still shows up at Tools > Manage add-ons.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
