IE6 freezes after I close a spawned window

Hi,

I am running Win2k SP4 with IE6 Version:6.0.2800.1106, SP1. I have Windows
Update installed and configured so that I get regular updates. My system has
been running just fine for a long time but recently I have noticed that IE
freezes occassionally. It seems to occur after a new Explorer window has
been spawned from the original one and I close the new one. The original
window then does not respond and I have to kill it from the task manager.
The problem started after the recent Windows update (May 2007) since it has
only been happening for a week or so.

I have done a full virus scan (Norton AV2007) and a full Ad-Aware scan (I
do these at least weekly) and have also defragmented my HD but it is still
happening. No new programs have been added to my PC in the last few weeks so
the Windows Update is the only thing that I can think of.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA,
-GB

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
