I have asked this question before and have not recieved
any answer that helped so am trying once more. I cannot
download any program using IE6. I can download programs
using other browsers (Mozilla, Netscape). Does anyone
know how to resolve this? Thank you!

A good example is when I tried to download the Office
2003 SP1. It starts to download but will suddenly get
stuck about 1/4-1/2 way through. If it says 2 minutes
left it just stays there and no matter how long I wait it
never finishes. I go to another broswer and it works
easily.
The same thing happened when I tried to download a new
program (I assume it was an exe file). Thanks for your
help.

You appear to have been answered before (assuming you are the person
in the search string below) but I don't see anywhere that you have
responded with any helpful information.

1. Exactly what happens when you try and download?
2. What file type do you have the problem with? (.exe .zip etc.))

Please don't assume it is an exe file if it is not.
It is important that you be sure and it is easy to do so.

If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
[Q303401]
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
The key does not normally exist.

I'm actually having a similar problem with downloads not
working through IE6, I've got all the updates, etc. but I
can be downloading any type of file, seemingly any size
and almost all the time it freezes. Sometimes after a
couple retries it'll work, other times it's useless. I
also noticed that at about the same time Napster started
giving me problems where most of the time downloading
freezes, listening to radio stops, etc. I tried
different firewalls, without a firewall, with out AV
running, removing Napster, shutdown spybot, removed
spybot. I contacted napster, netgear, linksys no
problems there. Firefox works great though. I have the
exact same problem with IE6 on another PC too. Very
frustrating.
