I'm having huge problems with Internet Explorer. I'm running WindowsXP
Pro SP2.
When I open IE6 and type a url in the address bar, and hit go, it opens
the URL in another browser (i.e. if the default browser is Opera, it
opens in Opera). So I change the default browser back to IE, then when
I try again it opens another IE window that does noting and doesn't
browse to the link in either the original IE window or the new one.
Hitting reset to defaults does nothing. Nor does it seem to want to
check that its the default browser any more.
And it doesn't stop there. If I hit the home button (and my home is set
to about:blank) it opens 59 new windows. Even if I hit windows update
in the tools menu, it sends the link to the other browser.
Now, to blame this on a virus or spyware would be easy, if I didn't
know that I have neither. Spybot reports no spyware, Macaffe reports no
viruses.
I have re-installed SP2, I have re installed IE via its inf file. I
have manually edited the HTTP registry entry to force it to IE. I have
changed the program access defaults to the standard access details.
