Hi Everyone,
I'm having a very strange problem with IE6, and I hope someone here
can help me with.
Every time I try to open IE6, nothing happens. I click the start
button then I click on Internet Explorer, and the IE6 window just
won't appear. When I look at the Task Manager I see that the
IEXPLORE.EXE process is running, taking up a constant 13,280KB of
memory, but the IE6 window is nowhere to be found.
All I can add is that this started happening shortly after I installed
my copy of Microsoft Office 2003. After installing the copy, there
were no immediate problems with IE, but then I also ran Microsoft
Update which included an upgrade of Office to SP1, and also an ActiveX
installation of Microsoft Update from the Microsoft website.. and then
shorty after I noticed this problem with IE.
The thing is I thought I had already resolved this problem, since I
suspected it might have something to do with the fresh Office
installation, I went to Internet Options -> Programs -> HTML editor,
and changed the default editor to CuteHTML (which is what I have
installed) rather than use Microsoft Word, and right after I did that
IE6 started working properly again. But then I put my computer on
standby, and after reactivating it the problem started happening all
over again (this time the default HTML editor was already set to
CuteHTML). So I really don't know what's going on anymore...
Another strange thing is that if I click on Windows Update from the
start menu (which opens through internet explorer), the IE6 window
appears immediately and without any problems. It's only when I opt to
run IE6 directly by clicking on it via the Start Menu, that it just
doesn't want to start.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the cause of this?
Thanks in advance!
