On most web pages IE6 has stopped displaying buttons only
a box with a red cross appears. any idears?

Just buttons, or all images? Are you sure this
is occuring on all web sites? Because this is
usually a problem with the site.

On your end, first make sure that pictures are
enabled. Go to Internet Options from the Control
Panel, click the Advanced tab, and make sure
Show Pictures is checked under the Multimedia
section. Also go to the General tab and Delete Files
to clear your cache. You might try clearing history
there too. Also click Settings there, and make
sure the radio button is set to Automatically. That
should do it, as long as the web site is okay, and
you're connecting okay, just make sure you're not in
offline mode, by going to File on IE's menu and
making sure Work Offline is not checked.

Thanks RayO
It does seem to be only on some web sites that i've used
before with no problems. I've checked all the settings
you suggested all were ok. It wouldn't be anything to do
with the firewall?

It's possible, but most likely it's some type
of connection or missing file problem with the web site.
Also, try just refreshing the page. Just click refresh,
or press F5, on the page. If the site keeps showing
the red marks, and others are fine, then most likely
it's the web site's problem, or possibly even an ISP
problem. Give them some time to solve it, and then try
again later on.

Thankyou

That box with a red cross in it usually signifies taht
either the graphics taht the web page source code is
looking fore are not available or you have Display
Graphics turned off.

If it's ONLY buttons, all other graphics are OK and it
consisten on several web sites, then you may be
encountering something similar to my problem with
hijacked graphics under XP and MSIE 6. I'm still looking
for an answer on that one my self.
