IE6 Crashes at launch

Since downloading Real Player, IE6 crashes the system (white Message Box
with Close-Ignore). I can still launch via Network Neighbohood and selecting
IE from the Address Pull-Down Listbox, however, in which case performance is
'almost' perfect - but produces occasional crashes if I click on some links -
never a problem if I copy the link into the Address box.

I have tried reinstalling IE6 - as well as un/re-installing Real Player, but
to no avail.

I am running a 400MHz PC with Win98SE.

Hmm. My IE6 is crashing with a dialog asking if I want to send an error
report to MS or not. If that is what you see, I am going to try to repair
IE6 tonight from this KB that I found in another post.

Wildargs again -

I printed off the "Internet Explorer Repair Tool" info. It refers to IE5
throughout but may be relevant- or may not. Whenever I find time to "waste"
on this issue, I'll try whatever it recommends.

In the meanwhile, the real "quick fix" to my problem was simply to download
Netscape 7.2. I am not being snide - I haven't used Netscape in years, and
I've naturally tended toward MSIE since I use Microsoft Visual C. But the
computer in question is just a 400 MHz used for mail and shopping - not
games, not development, etc., etc.

My browser problem appears to relate to an IE/Windows response to triggering
links, as any URL link in the Address Box succeeds, but some hot spots
crash if clicked on - just "some", suggesting some attribute of the hot spots
is critical. And the crashes are complete - no "report to Microsoft" option
box. - as though that would do any good... as I assume around the globe
there'll probably be over a million program crashes in the time I take to
type this.

It'd be nice if I could just go to my Microsoft Visual Studio and step
through the problem, but it ain't my source code. The info/support resources
are so labyrinthine and clumsy and vague, I feel somewhat like Bob Dylan in
his lyrics, "I used to care, but times have changed."
