Hello. I have been having this problem ever since I
installed XP. Let me tell you what happened, and if
someone can explain to me in English how to fix it,
simply...I'd appreciate it. I am not that great with
computers and don't understand much of the lingo.

I installed XP to replace Windows 98 3 weeks ago and
since, my CPU has been running slow when I run IE6. I
looked at the task manager and the culprit is definitely
IE6. It says it is using 98% of my CPU and it never
settles back down! I cannot use my computer and am
forced to restart every time...nothing else is using the
CPU!!!

So Netscape works. IE doesn't. I cannot even run the
Windows Updates from Microsoft because their product is
so slow and will not let me download with Netscape, which
works.

I did ultimately find a way around it and got the updates
automatically downloaded...they did nothing to improve my
system once installed.

I need help seriously because my computer is so bad that
I can no longer use it, and I have many things to do
online being that I am a student. Please help! Please
email me with a solution!

Robert,

Do you also have lots of disk thrashing? Maybe you have you don't need
running like "search web for updates" and so on. Check out
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm. Convert your machine to the
SAFE configuration and see what happens.

It's what I did -- it's been about a month now -- and evrything works fine.
