I was surfing on my laptop, and my browser got jammed. I had to
cntrl-Alt-delete and despite several restarts, the browser does not open.
Tried running McAfee and Spybot and Adaware, but nothing showed up.
Any suggestions would be most helpful!

It doesn't work.

Whenever I try to start IE i get an error message, telling me that there is
a problem and that the problem will have to shut down, with the usual option
to send an error report.

Any suggestions ?

Still trying to fix the problem.
I followed the instructions in the link. Got stuck, so I tried to reinstall
IE6 by downloading it. Can't do that either, because I keep getting an error
msg that the version I have installed is newer!
Help!

Hi Sherry :-)

There are a few things causing the problem. You don't mention which version
of Windows you are using on the laptop, so I will provide for 2000 and XP.

First try these two programs and see if they help:

and..

Since you tried to do a reinstall of the IE and it didn't work, try to
repair it:

You need to uninstall only any SPs which were installed /after/
installing IE6. You will have to go to the Windows Update and reinstall all
the
necessary updates after the reinstall.

Hey JanI1!
You guessed right, I'm using XP Home Edition. Sorry about that.

Nothing seemed to work, I just kept getting that obnoxious error message
over and over. Tried fiddling with system restore points, but they didn't do
the trick. Tried reinstalling etc. as per microsoft website instructions, but
nothing doing.

In desperation (we're being oustationed abroad tomorrow and really didnt
need PC probs at this point), my hubby stuffed in an old CD with IE6 on it,
and reinstalled IE6. Upon checking, the IE6 works fine so far, and is the
original version that broke down. Crossing my fingers... and hope this info
helps somebody else with the same problem out there.
Thanks for your support and help, guys! Got some packing to do now, phew!
