Hello,
I have a problem with Internet Explorer 6 with service pack 2. The message
in the blue banner across the top of the page reads "Cannot find server -
Microsoft Internet Explorer". The title across the top of the information
on the page reads "This page cannot be displayed".

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE6 - but so far nothing works.
I would appreciate all of the help and advice that you might offer.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!

First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

Hooray! Thank you, Frank, I followed your instructions and my connectivity
to the internet with IE6 was restored. I had to use the brand x brower, but
it worked. I first downloaded the LSPFIX program. Then, I upgraded my
"HOSTS" file in Windows XP Pro. Next I ran spybot, which I have been using
for a while - but I was not able to get the latest updates and downloads.
Next, I downloaded and ran the "Ad-Aware Personal SE 1.05" from Lavasoft. I
was amazed at all of the scumware, spyware, etc., which was still on my
computer. I then ran the LSPFIX and IE6 is working again.
My only small problem now is that I get an error message on bootup, which
tells me that IE6 and Outlook Express have been deleted from my computer and
do I want to "clean up my desktop". Both programs are functioning properly.
I am also gettin "popups" on some of the websites that I visited this
morning.
And as you have said, there is a lot more to do than just "spybot" and
"Ad-aware" and I will be continuing.....
Best Regards....
Merry Christmas!
