IE6 suddenly stopped connecting to the internet.
I have a Pipex broadband connection that starts up OK -
verifies password and says it is connected. Then when I
start IE6 I get 'The page cannot be displayed' mesage and
an error message for Winhost32 saying 'This programme has
performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown'.
When I look at the connection status, you see that just a
few hundred bytes have moved each way and that slowly
increases if you leave IE6 going.
The Internet connection through the same modem works fine
with a laptop so the problem does seem to be with the PC.
I have checked all the obvious things like the connection
settings in IE6\Tools\Internet Options\Connection\ and
shut down all possibly interfering programmes sech as
firewalls but to no avail. I have tried re-loading Win 98
but did not solve the problem. I also tried loading a new
version of IE6 from a CD but that did not help.
Any ideas to solve the problem gratefuly received!
