Closed all day long. Re-installed WINDOWS XP Pro. Again loads and
EXITS after two (2) seconds.

A reinstall of IE6 indicates that I alreday have a . . . newer
version?

The attached is the ERROR that has been sent to "Microsoft" not less
than forty (40) times in the last ten (10) hours.

IS there a SOLUTION or must I learn FIREFOX and OPERA? I have no
reason to believe that I will ever see IE6 agian------- unless I
FORMAT the Hard drive. DAMN!!!!!

I have been using IE since Internet Mail & News (over a decade) and I
don't "wannna' learn a new program. :-(

Hi,
It's likely that another program is causing this- possibly legitimate-
possibly malware.

From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable non-microsoft add-ons to see if one
of them is the culprit.

Does this happen if you startup in Safe Mode with Networking? If it does
not, that points to another program as the cause. Do not connect to the web
for more than a few seconds in Safe Mode- security programs won't be
running.

Disable (for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers,
security, toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at
any program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reconfigure,
reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

*Important*
Turn on the Windows Firewall (from Control Panel> Windows firewall) before
disabling a third-party firewall.

If not caused by a legitimate program, you should download, update and run
Ad-aware, Spybot and (if running WinXP) MS Anti-Spyware (Beta.)

NO.

A screenshot of the running processes is attached.

Why did you reinstall WinXP? Did you format & reinstall or do a Repair
Install? Have you (1) enabled the Windows Firewall, (2) checked in at
Windows Update, and (3) installed & manually updated an anti-virus
application yet?

Why did you reinstall WinXP?
I could not and still cannot load and use IE6.
Did you format & reinstall or do a RepairInstall?
Repair Install
Have you (1) enabled the Windows Firewall,
No. Not in the last 2 to 3 years.
(2) checked in at Windows Update,
Yes, however it will NOT give me any updates--- unless I install SP2,
which I will not
and (3) installed & manually updated an anti-virus application yet?

Yes.

In addition: Spybot was installed and AdAware and SpywareBlaster
still is.

IE6 works fine . . . if I boot into "Safe Mode" w/networking
support.

Without a firewall or SP2 installed, it's fruitless to continue here: the
machine will continue to be (re)infected.

Hijackware infects the Operating System, not the browser, and a Repair
Install will not help.

To resolve the problem:

1. Format & reinstall Windows. Then, before doing ANYTHING else online:

2a. Enable the Windows Firewall.

2b. Download and install SP2 manually:

2c. Check in at Windows Update and install ALL critical updates.

2e. Enable Automatic Updates.

2f. Install & manually update a reliable anti-virus application.
