IE6 cannot connect to any pages

About 2 weeks ago the Internet Explorer stopped connecting on my Win
2000 server. Connecting to any URL results in:

The page cannot be displayed.
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable....

It seems like my anti-virus program cannot get out either. Yet IIS is
still working since I can connect to my web site and remotely connect
to the computer via TCP/IP.

I have run Microsofts malicious removal tool on the machine as well as
HijackThis and nothing out of the ordinary has been found.

Your help and suggestions is appreciated.

My guess is that you have left a proxy set to the local echo address
(e.g. 127.0.0.1.) So IIS would be listening on that. If you watch
the Status bar closely you might see messages there which would
confirm this idea.
