How can I remove IE6 SP1 as my default browser and use
netscape. IE6 sp1 has totally messed up my system.

If you would like to tell us what the problems are you are having, perhaps
we can assist you in fixing it. It's rare for IE SP1 to "totally mess" up a
system.

Most often we find there are problems not related to IE, such as running a
virus program in the background while trying to download, etc.

Microsoft couldn't help, but I'll give this a shot.
I can open IE6 SP1 however when I click on a page with a
pop up or on a link with javascript:open_win("any web
site") I get an error report window with the error
signature AppName Iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 and Offset: 00000000

This happens on every web page I visit. I have
reinstalled IE6 SP1 from the microsoft website many times
and the problem continues. I hav installed Sun Java and
this does not help. All I want to do is a complete
uninstall of IE6 and a new clean install.

Thanks in advance for any help. This has gotten
extremely frustrating....

Hi Ed,

You didn't say which operating system you have. For Windows 98 it's start,
settings, control panel, add/remove, scroll down to Microsoft Internet
Explorer 5 and SP 1, highligh it and chose add/remove. On the pop up menu,
choose restore the previous operating system, and you will go back to IE5 or
5.5.

If you have XP, I can't help. I have heard IE6 becomes a part of XP. You
might try, if you do have XP at
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
and ask the experts there.

You can run both browsers.  No need to remove IE.  There's a link to Netscape newsgroups at ufaq.org.  They can help you with configuration if you need it.

I have windows 2000 professional. IE6 SP1 becomes part
of the operating system. Maybe if Microsoft lost the
court case I wouldn't have this problem. Just a
thought...
